'Hurley Pride' signs raise pride in community

HURLEY - Members of the Hurley K-12 School and Hurley community got artistic over the weekend, sharing their pride for the school district and the people that support it.

Throughout the community, and around the school, the slogan "Hurley Pride," with a large "H" was spray painted.

"An idea came to be that since there is so much pride within the Hurley School and community, why not display a classy symbol around town as a reminder of what the Hurley School is all about," elementary principal Kevin Genisot said a in press release. "It's a neat reminder as you travel the roads around the school that it takes a community to raise a child and that's what we have at the Hurley School."

Painters included Hurley Mayor and Iron County Chairman Joe Pinardi, school board President Joe Simonich, superintendent Chris Patritto, elementary principle Kevin Genisot and city council members Jay Aijala and Steve Lombardo.

The stencils were made by students in the Northwoods Manufacturing program at the Hurley School, under the direction of instructors Roger Peterson and Jacob Hostettler.

According to Genisot, the students will make other stencils to be used around the school, including one saying "Buses Only," to be painted in the bus drop-off lane.

As for the "Hurley Pride" symbols, Genisot said the locations around town would be a surprise, but thanked everyone for their support of the district.

"We have awesome relationships with so many businesses and organizations within and outside of our school borders, and it's impossible to even start naming them without accidentally omitting someone," Genisot said. "We are always grateful for any type of support we receive, as without these connections, the Hurley school could not be nearly as successful as it has been. Thanks again to everyone that helps contribute in making a positive impact for all students attending the Hurley school."
