W-M students make Christmas surprises

WAKEFIELD - It was a big day Thursday for Wakefield-Marenisco elementary school students.

The students in grades pre-kindergarten through fourth entertained family and friends at an evening Christmas concert.

For first grade students in teacher Mary Ann Mazari's class, a Christmas project added to their enthusiasm for the holidays.

The students fashioned evergreen boughs into Christmas balls, adding ribbons to them, and planned to surprise their parents with the gifts.

"They're bringing them home tonight," Mazari said on Thursday afternoon, just before the school bell rang.

The boughs for the project were donated by Mazari's sister, Brenda Oman, and her husband, Ray, of Montreal, Wis., who said the students were fired up about the project, especially at Christmas.

"We're grateful for their donation," Mazari said.

The boughs were kept covered outside the classroom to protect them before they were taken home.

There was perfect attendance on Thursday in the first grade class as the students showed off the bough balls, including Isabelle Anderson, Jace Billie, Ayden Borlek, Logan Bressette, Carine Cole, Emily DelFavero, Jayden Ellias, Noelle Grace, Tamara Hash, Eli Hewitt, Patrick Hokans, Kennedy Ikola, Robert Kaseno, Lilly Kolehmainen, Sean Lake, Lake Lohkamp, Kevin Mahler, Owen Miljevich, Emily Peterson, Garett Prisbe, Jace Symons, Nathan Thill and Jonah White.
