Erwin Township Board of Trustees names new clerk

ERWIN TOWNSHIP - The Erwin Township Board of Trustees appointed Vicky Finco as the township's new clerk at the board's Wednesday meeting, following the resignation of Prisilla Gerovac.

Gerovac's resignation, effective June 5 according to a resignation letter read by Township Supervisor Larry Grimsby, was accepted by the earlier in the meeting.

Grimsby said that Finco was chosen, along with two others, from the pool of qualified township residents who had applied for the township's treasurer position. The two other applicants withdrew their names from consideration prior to the meeting, citing concerns about the position's time requirments.

Following her appointment, Finco told the audience that she was excited for the challenge.

"I have 27 years of accounts payable (experience) and am willing to work with Renee (Hill, the township's treasurer) to make sure everything is done to the best of our ability," said Finco. "I think I'll find it challenging. I like to learn, I'm quick to figure out things and am willing to work with people. I want to do a good job for the people in the township."

The board also accepted the June 5 resignation of Tom Gerovac from the township's planning commission and appointed John Nuce as his replacement.

In other action:

- The board adopted the new Freedom of Information Act policy that the state requires municipalities to follow. Grimsby stressed that the township's policy remained committed to full transparency and that the adoption of the policy didn't change anything.

- The board approved sending Hill and Finco to a Michigan Township Association workshop in St. Ignace to learn about township finances if they are able to attend the training.

- The board approved a three year contract with Melissa Prisbe to provide the township with assessing services.
