Ironwood — The Ironwood City Commission on Monday agreed to sell 20 items of seized property to the public.

Included are six trucks or cars, three snowmobiles, two televisions, a coin collection and sports cards, among other items.

All items will be advertised with suggested minimum bids.

Ironwood Public Safety Department Director Andrew DiGiorgio said the vehicles will be set up outside the public safety department building for public viewing.

He said most of the vehicles were seized through Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team raids.

The items will be advertised in the newspaper and car dealers will be contacted about the vehicles available, DiGiorgio said, as the goal is to bring in as much money as possible.

Proceeds from the sale of 19 of the 20 items will go to fund GIANT, while one item sold will be designated for youth activities.

In other business Monday, commissioners agreed Tim Dean should take over as city attorney, replacing his fellow law partner, Michael Pope, who has been appointed Gogebic County Circuit Court Judge by Gov. Rick Snyder.

Pope will be on the job with the city through Jan. 28. He was given a round of applause at Monday’s meeting for the promotion before leaving the meeting early with Dean.

Commissioner Kim Corcoran said she was “...happy with Pope and I feel confident moving on with Dean.” Other commissioners agreed, approving Dean on a 5-0 vote.

The commission also awarded a bid for rehabilitation of well 201 at the city wellfields to Kleiman Pump and Well Drilling for $27,170. Eric Kleiman attended the meeting. It was the low bid of two received.

City utilities director Bob Tervonen said the work should boost the output of the well. He said plans call for rehabilitation of another well next year.
