Wisconsin heads to polls Tuesday

Iron County voters head to the polls Tuesday for Wisconsin’s August primary.

At the county level, clerk Michael J. Saari, treasurer Clara J. Maki and register of deeds Daniel Soine are all running unopposed as Democrats. They likely won’t be challenged in November’s general election.

In a District Attorney race, two Democrats — Elaine Erickson and Anthony J. Stella Jr. — are vying for a spot on November’s ballot. The winner will face Republican Mathew J. Tingstad, who is unopposed Tuesday.

Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold and Scott Harbach will face off in the U.S. Senate Democratic primary. The winner will face U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and Phillip Anderson in November. Johnson, a first-term senator, is running unopposed on Tuesday’s Republican ballot. Anderson is running unopposed on the Libertarian Party ticket.

U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Weston, is facing a challenge from Donald Raihala for the Republican spot on November’s ballot for the Seventh Congressional District. The winner will face either Mary Hoeft or Joel Lewis — the Democrats on Tuesday’s primary ballot for Congress.

State Rep. Beth Meyers, D-Bayfield, is running for re-election to the 74th District.

She is unopposed for the Democratic spot on November’s ballot.

There are no Republicans running for the seat.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mercer voters will vote at the community center attached to the library rather than at the town hall.
