Voters retain Pope as circuit judge

Voters in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties have voted to retain 32nd Circuit Court Judge Michael Pope for the remainder of a term lasting until Jan. 1, 2021.

Pope received 4,128 votes in Gogebic County and 1,883 votes in Ontonagon County for a total of 6,011 votes. Pope’s challenger, Mark McDonald, received 2,187 votes in Gogebic County and 818 votes in Ontonagon County for a total of 3,005 votes.

Pope was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder late last year to serve until this election in the wake of former Circuit Judge Roy Gotham’s retirement.
