Dorothy Park Erickson

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Dorothy Park Erickson, 88, of Ironwood, died Saturday evening, Nov. 12, 2016, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

The former Dorothy Mickelson was born March 5, 1928, in Aurora, Ill., daughter of the late Ralph and Charlotte (Park) Mickelson, and attended West Aurora, Ill., schools. She moved to Ironwood in 1945 and was a 1946 graduate of Luther L. Wright High School.

Dorothy owned and operated the Spinning Wheel Yarn Shop on Lake Street in Ironwood for eight years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, life member and Past Matron of Aurora Chapter, Order of Eastern Star No. 48, and member of the Auxiliary to Ironwood American Legion Post 5. In earlier years, she lived at Pine Lake, Wis., and served as clerk for the town of Oma. She graduated with an associate degree from Gogebic Community College in 1982.

She was united in marriage to George L. Olson on Aug. 30, 1947, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Theodore Johnstone. George preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1995.

She then was married to Thomas Erickson on Nov. 17, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Peter Bartlett.

Surviving are her husband, Tom, of 15 years; two daughters, Lee Ann (Rev. Peter) Bartlett, Ironwood, and Carolyn (Ric) Riniker, Platteville, Wis .; four grandchildren, Geoffrey (Hatha) Bartlett, Amherst, N.Y., Lynn (Michael) Wilson, Grand Rapids, Cristin (Paul) Logan, Apple River, Ill., and Jake (Ashley) Riniker, Lancaster, Wis .; nine great-grandchildren, Cate and Bess Bartlett, Brendan, Megan and Rebekah Wilson, Troy and Paisley Logan, and Korbyn and Jesy Riniker; a sister, Helen Manthey, Hoyt Lakes, Minn .; stepdaughter-in-law, Joyce (Henry) Habitzrther, Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Dorothy was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Paul Mickelson; and stepson, Bruce Erickson.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private family services will be held.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
