Wakefield - Dove, Inc. held its 2nd annual Color Fun Run on Saturday morning at Sunday Lake in Wakefield. Despite the recent cold weather, there was a large turn-out for the event. This year, the event was co-sponsored by the Gogebic Range Health Foundation and is held in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Participants began the run at the John Siira pavilion and continued on the path around Sunday lake. While many chose to run, others came out to walk, or stroll, in support of the non-profit's cause.

"We're really happy with the turn-out" said DOVE Assistant Director Amber Hendrickson, "We can't thank the community enough, they have been amazing."

During the event, there were gift baskets donated by local businesses, a 50/50 raffle, snacks and beverages, and other activities. The grand prizes included a pair of Brewer's tickets, 1 month membership to Snap fitness, and a pair of gold earrings. There was also a prize drawing for those attendees who dressed-up in tutus for the event.

DOVE is a shelter in Ironwood that offers support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a non-profit organization, DOVE holds fundraisers in order to keep the organization in operation.

The Gogebic Range Health Foundation has pledged to match the proceeds from the event up to $10,000 this year. Aside from the pledge, local sponsors were listed on the backs of the event t-shirts for donations of $100 and up.

Proceeds from the event will go towards diapers, formula, clothing, personal hygiene products, blankets, and other necessities. "The majority of people that come to the shelter just come with the clothes on their backs, so these things are really important." said Hendrickson.
