Charity motorcycle ride visits Iron Belt Saturday

IRON BELT, Wis. — Bikers besieged Belt City for a good cause Saturday around noon.

The normally quiet Iron County town came alive for a few hours when about 130 motorcycles and many cars from the Cable area stopped at Joany’s Sidekicks during a charity ride for the St. Jude Hospital’s fight against childhood cancer and other causes.

On a cool morning, the caravan aimed to ride 160 miles for the day. So far, there had been only one mishap, with a motorcycle hitting the ditch.

Dan Hinman, of Cable, leader of the pack, said it’s the sixth year of the charity ride. “We hope to raise $20,000 for the two days,” he said.

The ride was Friday and Saturday, with prizes given out at the stops in a Poker Run format.

The many stops along the route were laid out on a brochure that was handed out to the participants.

While most of the motorcycles are Harley Davidsons, other makes of machines are permitted, too.

The whole trip is called “Rumble on the Lake” and a website is accessible at rumbleonthelake.com.

Rumble on the Lake is a nonprofit organization that gives back to the community “by showcasing the beauty of the Northwoods in and around Cable through organized fun motorcycle experiences,” according to the website.

Proceeds from the ride also support local youth programs in the form of scholarships and meeting medical needs, Hinman said.
