Wakefield law enforcement torch run set for Saturday

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield area Law Enforcement Torch Run will be held Saturday to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

Registration for the event starts at 10 a.m., with the run starting 10:45; starting and ending at the Michigan State Police post on Sunday Lake Street.

“The Wakefield Community Run is an opportunity for law enforcement, corrections personnel and community members to run shoulder to shoulder, raising money and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan athletes,” a spokesman said in a news release. “It is one in a series of over 45 community runs scheduled in September around the state during Law Enforcement Torch Run Week.”

Community members are invited to participate in the run.

The run coincides with the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run-Central Route — “a 750-mile non-stop relay run from Copper Harbor ... metro Detroit,” according to the announcement.

That run starts Sept. 10 and ends Sept. 14.

The relay consists of teams from the Fraternal Order of the Police, Michigan Department of Corrections and the Michigan State Police.
