Hurley — The Hurley Education Foundation is hosting a golf tournament at Eagle Bluff Golf Course in Hurley on Sunday at 11 a.m. to raise money for projects at Hurley School District.

The tournament is a two-person 18-hole scramble with three divisions, including men’s, women’s and mixed. The tournament is open to anyone over 18 years old.

HEF board member Joel Enking told the Daily Globe that 24 teams of two have already signed up for the tournament as of Thursday afternoon and they expect even more walk-ins on Sunday during the 10 a.m. registration.

After the scramble, the winning teams will be announced and a light meal will be offered at the clubhouse. Food will also be available at the concession booth on the course.

An announcement from the HEF says that a limited number of golf carts are available for reservation by calling Eagle Bluff at 715-561-3552.

The HEF encourages participants in the scramble to donate to the foundation. Enking said that the HEF funds large projects at the school district. The foundation recently funded a new science lab that celebrated its grand opening during the Iron County Heritage Festival and the foundation’s annual induction ceremony for distinguished alumni in August.

Enking said the HEF has been planning to update the school’s library/media center and introduce Smartboards to every classroom. These large, touch-sensitive displays enable a greater variety of options than traditional whiteboards.

Enking said that the foundation has already donated some Smartboards to the school, but they plan to purchase two more recent models with additional features for a pair of classrooms, with the idea of acquiring more in the future.

The foundation is also considering the possibility of updating the school’s playground equipment and other, smaller projects such as buying new band uniforms and instruments for the music department, Enking said. He said that the foundation encourages staff to “dream big” and bring whatever ideas they have to them.
