Bessemer - Tuesday is Election Day in Michigan as voters statewide will head to the polls to cast a ballot in the Presidential Primary.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Early voting was is full swing on this past Tuesday at the Gogebic County Courthouse in Bessemer. A new Michigan law provides for nine days of early voting before all state and federal elections.

The nine city and township clerks in the county worked with County Clerk Ramona Collins to host these special voting days - Feb. 17-25 - at the courthouse, with each township or city providing three poll workers for one day each.

While all voters in the county can vote at the courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the special nine days, including weekends, those who choose to vote on Election Day on Tuesday will need to visit their local polling place.

Monday is a day off from voting.

Being a primary, voters can only vote on one party's ticket - Republican Party or Democratic Party. There are no other parties on the primary ballot.

The ballot includes three names on the Democratic Party ticket, including President Joseph Biden, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson. The Republican Party ticket includes: former President Donald Trump, Ryan Binkley, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson and Vivek Ramaswamy. Both tickets also include the choice of "uncommitted."

The nine days of early voting will also be in effect in Michigan before the state primary election on Aug. 6 and the general election on Nov. 5. There will be no early voting period before the Ironwood Area Schools' special election on May 7.
