    BESSEMER - The weather was clear and warm as the Bessemer Blast 2015 festivities continued on Saturday. The morning included the annual Hometown Run/Walk and Tot Trot, and events held at the Sophie Street Pocket Park, including kid's games, dance lessons, face painting and pony rides. In the afternoon, attention turned to the Lake States Mud Run at the pit on North Moore Street. Spectators, armed with sun block, braved the warm temperatures to watch the mud fly.   • Mercer celebrates Claire d'Loon's 34th birthday; chamber receives JEM grant

    MERCER, Wis. - Claire d'Loon, Mercer's 16-foot, 2,000-pound loon, located on U.S. 51, celebrated her 34th birthday, complete with a present - a new voice - Saturday. Under the bow and wrapping was a new interactive voice box that allows visitors to learn about loons, as well as hear the loon's famous calls. Visitors can read about Claire d'Loon on the display as well as press one of four buttons to hear loon sounds, including a hoot, tremolo, yodel and wail.   • 10th annual Brian Nasi Memorial run raises heart awareness

    HURLEY - The 10th annual Brian Nasi Memorial Heart Run/Walk was held Saturday starting and finishing at the Hurley K-12 School. It was a popular spot for families as young and old participated in the either a 1-mile or 5-kilometer run/walk. All the children under 12 were given a ribbon and other prizes. To add to the fun, Junior the Clown and Twinklz were available to provide balloon animals and paint faces.   • Ironwood's annual spring clean up draws crowd on Saturday

    IRONWOOD - The city of Ironwood's spring garbage drop off was held Saturday in a vacant lot on East Ayer Street. According to City Manager Scott Erickson, the most popular items to be thrown away were mattresses. Residents had a bit of a wait to unload their vehicles, with the line - which began forming long before the official 8 a.m. start - stretching a few blocks from the vacant lot back to the old Josephson Nursing Home.
