  • Four locals, five state basketball champions to play in UP All-Star Classic

    MARQUETTE — Five players who ended their high school careers with state basketball championships will play their final prep game Saturday. The 30th annual U.P. All-Star Classic will be held at Marquette High School. It is the first time this game will be hosted by MHS, although the opening seven games in the series were held in Marquette, at Northern Michigan University.     HANCOCK - Three former professional athletes who hail from the Upper Peninsula are among 10 new inductees into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame. Paul Feldhausen of Iron Mountain spent three years in the National Football League, the late Hugh (Muzz) Murray of Sault Ste.     ST. IGNACE - Doug Ingalls learned how to play point guard during an all-state basketball career at Gladstone High School. He honed his craft during a four-year stint at Northern Michigan University. He has continued to develop the impact of that position as varsity boys coach at St. Ignace, in addition to helping his wife's girls team that has won four state titles.     ST. IGNACE — A storybook season and a sterling career reached a special farewell here Saturday. Sarah Cullip of St. Ignace and Brett Branstrom of Mid Peninsula ended their high school careers with a flourish, earning MVP honors at the 28th annual Upper Peninsula All-Star Classic basketball twinbill at LaSalle High School.
