  | | Paintings by Jane Wertanen of Wakefield are on display at River Valley Bank in Ironwood this month. Wertanen painted the large portrait of her baby granddaughter and, more recently, a scene of the Gulf Coast, where she lived for years before the recent oil spill threatened its beaches. | The Ragbirds play while audience members dance at the sixth annual Porcupine Mountains Music Festival Sunday at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. The band members are, from left, Max Lockwood, Loren Krantz, Erin Zindle and T.J. Zindle. Not pictured is Randall Moore. On Sunday, musician John Doe said it was so hot that every time he moved his fingers to a new fret, his guitar would sizzle. Jackie McMullen, a volunteer with the festival, said the turnout was up from last year. Mary Bartlein, a member of the festival’s sound company, Armadillo Sound, said she was struck by the wide age range of the attendees, from young children to people in their 60s and 70s. The festival’s attendees were “open to whatever music we present,” Bartlein said. “It’s all about the music.” (Kate Genellie/Daily Globe photo) |
