    IRONWOOD - Naima Adedapo, a top 11 "American Idol" finalist, arrived in Ironwood Friday for a brief performance that night and a longer one today at the Historic Ironwood Theatre. Forty-five area singers competed at the theater Friday night, all trying to become the opening act for Adedapo's performance tonight in a 90-minute show.   • Wakefield casino needs to include employment for everyone

    Dear Editor: Some years back I went to the casino in Ashland, Wis., to put in a job application for employment. On the application it said “preference given to Native Americans and are you Native American?” Since I’m not, I can assume my application ended up in the trash. If this is the policy of all Native American casinos how is that helping the employment problem in this area? I’m sure a big majority of the people here aren’t Native Americans? The area businesses who are proposing this project need to investigate this thoroughly... Full story

    William R. Carlson, 69, died peacefully at his home on Oct. 22, 2014. Bill was born in Ironwood, Mich., on May 30, 1945, to Clarence and Ann Carlson. After graduating from Washington Park High School in 1963, Bill attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in parks and recreation administration.     IRONWOOD - No basketball team is a polished product a week after Halloween. The Gogebic Community College Lady Samsons held on to beat Milwaukee Area Technical College 64-59 Friday night in the Tri State Classic. The teams combined for 53 fouls and 65 free throws.
