To the Editor: Nancy Warren, in a recent Letter to the Editor, tried to discredit a trapper of 40 years as not being an “expert on predator-prey relationships.” I looked up “expert,” as she should have done and found this: “A person with special skill or knowledge in a certain field.” I think a veteran trapper of 40 years can give us more hands on information with special skills than someone looking at a computer screen. HURLEY - The Iron County Board of Supervisors learned on Tuesday that mining company Gogebic Taconite was unable to make its lease payment for county property for its proposed mine site near Upson. County chairman Joe Pinardi told the board he learned the news after an Iron County Mining Impact Committee meeting last week. BESSEMER - Science teacher Dave Rowe gave a presentation about the school's Quiz Bowl and Science Olympiad teams to the school board on Monday night. Two tournaments are held for the Quiz Bowl team. A fall one is held at Gogebic Community College for the "range schools" and the tournament in the spring is regional and held in Marquette, which is usually around 40 to 50 teams, Rowe said. HURLEY - Hurley rolled past Mellen 54-25 Tuesday night in Indianhead Conference action. "We played much better defense tonight and we had a lot better energy throughout the game," Hurley coach Steve Eder said. "We shot well right out of the gate. We hit our first couple buckets."
