    IRONWOOD - Nevermind the fact that Warren Nelson is an accomplished guitarist, or the founder of the Northland's most unique music festival in Big Top Chautauqua. As a man who has written an ode to the very stage on which he stood Saturday night, Nelson's local charm had the audience's heart before he even struck a chord at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.   • Local skier remembered at Gugli Challenge

    BESSEMER - As if summoned by the great skier himself, large and very much needed snowflakes fell Saturday afternoon on Big Powderhorn Mountain just in time for the fourth annual Gugli Challenge. Seventeen local skiers took to the hill in the National Standard Race (NASTAR)-style event to vie for one of three trophies and pay homage to the late Dominic "Gugli" Guglielmotto, who won more than 700 medals in the sport.   • 'Souper Bowl Sundae' quilters mark 10 years

    BRUCE CROSSING - Eight quilters were registered for Brambleberry's 10th Souper Bowl Sundae quilting retreat held at the Stannard Township hall on Sunday. "2006 was our first one," said Vicki Kurtti, of Bruce Crossing, who owns Brambleberry. "We always have a tail gate party." "And a prize for each quarter," added Deana Voigt. The group plans a lot of their festivities using football terms, as the event takes place each year on the NFL's Super Bowl Sunday, usually the first Sunday in February.... Full story
