    RAMSAY, Mich. - Helen (Vidakovich) Sailer, 85, a long-time resident of Ramsay, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2016, with family and friends at her side. She was born in Wakefield on Nov. 24, 1930, the daughter of direct Yugoslavian (Serbian) immigrants, Paul and Milka (Borich) Vidakovich. Helen graduated from the Wakefield High School in 1949.   • Hurley council approves road funding resolution

    By RALPH ANSAMI [email protected] HURLEY — The Hurley City Council on Wednesday approved a letter to be sent to legislators requesting more state funding for road repairs. Mayor Joe Pinardi said the resolution resulted after all 72 counties met recently to discuss the lack of road funding. The Hurley resolution cites a study that says the condition of Wisconsin’s highways ranks in the bottom third in the country.     HURLEY — The Hurley City Council on Wednesday granted a liquor license for the supermarket that will be opening this fall. At its regular monthly meeting, the council approved a Combination Class A beer and liquor license for Copper Lining of Wisconsin, Thomas Kerscher agent, 1009 Holiday Lane, Pat’s Foods. The reopening of the former Super One market has been long awaited by Hurley area residents.     ASHLAND, Wis. — Lawrence “Larry” J. Kasper, 82, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family at his side. Larry was born March 12, 1934, in Hurley, the son of Joseph and Nicolena (Misuraco) Kasper. He was raised in the Hurley area and graduated from Hurley High School.     MARQUETTE, Mich. — Wilbert Perttula, 95, of Trout Creek, passed away Oct. 11, 2016, at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette Michigan. He was born June 28, 1921, in Trout Creek to John and Fanny (Ollila) Perttula. Wilbert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
