    By RICHARD JENKINS [email protected] HURLEY — With Monday’s paving extending Michigan’s non-motorized Iron Belle Trail into Hurley, the focus now turns toward the construction of a trailhead on the 500 feet of land between the Montreal River and Second Avenue. With that end in mind, the recently combined Iron County Outdoor Recreational Enthusiasts and Iron County Regional Trail group are hosting a fundraiser to raise money for the project.   • Probation revocation draws prison sentence

    By RALPH ANSAMI [email protected] HURLEY — A former Saxon, Wis., resident was sentenced to prison on Tuesday afternoon for revocation of probation conditions set on previous drug-related convictions. Matthew Maslanka, 38, of Hurley, was sentenced by Iron County Judge Patrick Madden. The judge sentenced him to four years of prison, with the first three to be spent in confinement and the fourth year under extended supervision.     BESSEMER — The Gogebic-Ontonagon Continuum of Care is helping organize a Project Homeless Connect event Friday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency site at 100 S. Mill St. in Bessemer. It’s part of a national initiative sponsored by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.
