She was born on Friday, Feb. 17, 1939, in Reed City, Mich., to the late Ora Asa and Goldie Almeda (Richert) Borton. She married the love of her life, Reino Leonard Mattson, on June 30, 1956. So while Ironwood had almost no rain for the first three weeks of May, downpours on Wednesday sent the monthly rainfall total nearly identical to the 117-year average.
