  • Ski flying headed back to Copper Peak

    IRONWOOD — Skiers will once again fly at Copper Peak. On Friday, USA Ski Jumping and Copper Peak announced an exhibition ski flying event to be held from Feb. 28 to March 2, 2014. The last ski flying event at Copper Peak, the only ski flying facility in North America, came in 1994.   • Snyder requests federal flood damage funding

    LANSING — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder on Friday requested President Barack Obama declare a major disaster for the state as a result of severe flooding that occurred in 16 counties, including Gogebic and Ontonagon, from April 16 to May 14. Gogebic County officials estimated damages across the county at around $2.6 million, with most of the costs related to road repairs.   • Marty's Goldenaires plans summer schedule

    BESSEMER — Marty’s Goldenaires began its 63rd performance season April 27 when it played at the Vietnam Veterans dinner in Hurley. On May 25, they played in Woodruff, Wis., during the town’s 125th anniversary celebration. The band’s assistant director, Dustin Pitrone, said that new songs for this summer include “Zoot Suit Riot,” by the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, “Take On Me,” by A-Ha, and an uptempo version of the “Dances with Wolves” theme he arranged.     BESSEMER, Mich. — Emily Rigoni Armichardy, 98, a longtime resident of Bessemer, entered eternal life on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Emily was born on May 24, 1915, in Anvil, the daughter of Thomas and Maria (Costa) Rigoni. Her family moved to Newport Location in Ironwood in 1925. She graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic High School. On Aug. 6, 1938, Emily was united in marriage with Peter A. Armichardy at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
