IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - The Ironwood Township Board approved the text amendment to ordinance 50, related to sand and gravel pits, Monday, with hopes of changing a portion of the document later. To the Editor: The letter from Jenna Pedrin dated June 5 is an excellent example of fear mongering at its worst. She claims that hydraulic fracturing “could” endanger Michigan’s water supply. She fails to note that Michigan has never had a single case of water contamination due to hydraulic fracturing, and we have been doing this for more than 40 years. HURLEY, Wis. - Frances A. "Fran" Loreti, 93, of Hurley, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at home. Fran was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Jan. 2, 1921, to Frank and Philomene (Broccone) Champagne. She graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1939 and worked at the Curry-Sullivan Agency (real estate and insurance) from 1941-1947. ASHLAND, Wis. - Randall "Randy" J. Robinson, 63, of Ashland, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his residence. He was born March 4, 1951, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of Robby and Janet (Sunie) Robinson. Randy graduated from Hurley High School in 1969.
