    IRONWOOD - For some, horseback riding is hobby. For lady long-rider Bernice Ende, it's a way of life. During an adventurous coast-to-coast horseback ride, Ende stopped in Ironwood Tuesday to rest for a couple days. Beginning from her home in northwestern Montana, Ende rode her horses Montana Spirit and Essie Pearl all the way to Maine. Spending the last winter on the East Coast, she has now embarked on a journey to the West Coast along a route that will take her across the breadth of the U.S.... Full story

  • Volunteers clean historic Ironwood Theatre

    IRONWOOD - The Historic Ironwood Theatre got a makeover on Thursday as around 15 volunteers came together for the theater's spring cleaning effort. Volunteers scrubbed chairs, dusted the chandeliers and swept the floors, as well as performing other needed tasks. Former theater board president Tom Williams thanked all the volunteers for their support. "None of this would be possible without them," he said.   • Iron County 4-H uses grants to offer programs throughout summer

    HURLEY — With a summer schedule full of activities for the younger residents of Iron County, the 4-H program continues to seek ways to fund the various activities it offers. While Neil Klemme, the youth development agent with the University of Wisconsin’s Iron County Extension Office, said while almost two-thirds of the funding for the popular 4-H summer camps comes from community donations, he recently obtained $10,500 in grant funding to help expand the programs offered.
