  • Festivale Italiano fills Hurley with music, food

    HURLEY — Hundreds of people celebrated their Italian heritage, or pretended to be Italian for a day, during the annual Festivale Italiano in downtown Hurley Saturday.     ONTONAGON — The Ontonagon Labor Day Festival Parade brought large crowds, music and ingenious home built floats to River Street Sunday. Float competition was close. “Judging this was really tough,” said Don Lutz. He was in Ontonagon for his 50th class reunion and to serve as one of five float judges.   • Gov. leads Mackinac walk, unions rally in Detroit

    DETROIT (AP) — Labor union supporters and the governor who made this the first right-to-work Labor Day in Michigan marched on opposite ends of the state Monday as America observed the holiday honoring working people. Gov. Rick Snyder set a fast pace as he led thousands of walkers across the 5-mile Mackinac Bridge that links Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas.     IRONWOOD, Mich. – Kathryn M. “Dolly” Brunello-Aho Lehto, 78, of Ironwood, passed away late Friday evening, Aug. 30, 2013. Kathryn was born on Jan. 20, 1935, in Wakefield, the daughter of Albino and Sadie K. (Dahlbacka) Brunello.  She attended Hurley (Wis.) schools, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1953. On Oct. 24, 1953, Kathryn was united in marriage with Lloyd E. Lehto in Hurley.  They were blessed with two sons. She and Lloyd celebrated more than 55 years of marriage... Full story

    HURLEY, Wis. — John M. “Jack” Poole, 79, of Ironwood, Mich., died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, in Hurley as a result of an automobile accident. He was born May 9, 1934, in Sheboygan, Wis., the son of John M. and Margaret (Wynhoff) Poole. Jack graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1952 and Michigan Tech in 1956 as a civil engineer.
