    BESSEMER - The weather was clear and warm as the Bessemer Blast 2015 festivities continued on Saturday. The morning included the annual Hometown Run/Walk and Tot Trot, and events held at the Sophie Street Pocket Park, including kid's games, dance lessons, face painting and pony rides. In the afternoon, attention turned to the Lake States Mud Run at the pit on North Moore Street. Spectators, armed with sun block, braved the warm temperatures to watch the mud fly.   • Ironwood hosts UP Historical Conference

    IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Area Historical Society played host to the 2015 Upper Peninsula History Conference, which wrapped up Sunday. Around 150 history idividuals attended the conference - which ran from June 26-28 - according to historical society Vice President Sandy Sharp, most of whom were from the lower peninsula.   • Unemployment up across most of Western UP

    Unemployment rose in five of the six western Upper Peninsula counties in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Market. The civilian labor market grew in both Gogebic and Ontonagon counties with both total employment and the unemployment rate rising during the month. The labor reports in the two counties are almost identical to each other. In Gogebic County, 100 people were added to the labor force in May. Seventy-five of them are employed.     BESSEMER, Mich. - Ann Busch, 96, a lifelong resident of Bessemer Township, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born on July 14, 1918, in Anvil Location, Bessemer, a daughter of George and Rose (Peer) Smiljanich. She attended Bessemer Schools. On April 24, 1937, Ann was united in marriage to Paul W.
