    IRONWOOD - The Gogebic Range saw a bit of everything when it came to weather during the month of June, but wet weather dominated much of the forecast throughout the Upper Peninsula. Ironwood saw 5.52 inches of rain, while Negaunee recorded 5.63 inches, almost double of the monthly normal of 2.84 inches. Watersmeet saw 5.39 inches of rain throughout the month. According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, the first two days of June featured the most rain, including more than 2 inches... Full story

  • Students get help for 'summer slide'

    IRONWOOD - In addition to family vacations, playing outside, swimming and enjoying the sunshine, Ironwood elementary students are doing homework. But instead of traditional textbooks and paper, students are using the Internet to help avoid the "summer slide," and have a little fun while learning.     RAMSAY - Despite about an hour downpour, the 4th of July festivities in Ramsay went off without a hitch on Saturday night. The community event began with a parade on July 4 and continued into July 5 with a street dance, music by Uncle Fester and Marty's Goldenaires and fireworks. Slade, 88, of Little Girl's Point, will be held Friday, July 11, at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, in Ironwood, with the Rev. Rosemary DeHut officiating.     TROUT CREEK, Mich. - Eleanor Bessen, 87, of Trout Creek, passed away July 2, 2014. She was born June 11, 1927, in Eagle River, Wis., to Albert and Martha (Olsson) Soquist of Conover, Wis. On Nov. 24, 1951, Eleanor married Roy Bessen, of Trout Creek, and soon became a very active member of this community.
