    IRONWOOD - Penokee Range overcame a tough Sunday loss to win big, 12-1, over Keweenaw on Monday evening. The Penokee Range 9-10 year-old Little League team advances to Marquette to continue District 11 play Wednesday. Penokee Range needed the Monday win after falling 5-3 to Portage Lake Sunday, setting up Monday's elimination game.     IRONWOOD - Opened to the public for a week, the Ironwood end of the non-motorized trail has been receiving positive feedback. On Wednesday, the Montreal River bridge was christened by Ironwood and Hurley officials, marking a major footstep for the Western Gateway Trail and Gov. Rick Snyder's goal of Michigan becoming the trail state.   • Soggy June in Ironwood produced few warm days

    IRONWOOD — The National Weather Service office in Marquette has logged some soggy statistics about June in Ironwood. The 5.4 inches of rain for the month was 150 percent above normal, according to Kevin Crupi, of the Marquette NWS office. It was also a cool month, with the average temperature of 60.2 coming in at 1.1 degrees under the long-term average. The high temperature reached above 80 only three days during the entire month.     PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Kenneth E. "Ken" Backman, 75, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his daughter's home in Coloma.
