    By RICHARD JENKINS [email protected] BERGLAND — The six districts in the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District will be starting school earlier next year after the state approved the district’s early-start waiver Tuesday. “(The waivers) were approved for a three-year period,” GOISD Superintendent Bruce Mayle said. “All the districts are planning to take advantage of that.” A state law passed in 2005 mandates districts start school after Labor Day, but allows a waiver for certain conditions.     By JAN TUCKER [email protected] ONTONAGON — The lakeshores of Ontonagon and the new Lake Street Park in Ontonagon will become more accessible this summer with features bringing more residents and visitors to the beaches of Lake Superior. With the help from a $16,900 grant through the Portage Health Foundation those in wheel chairs will be able to travel across the sands and get nearer to the beach than ever before.     EWEN, Mich. — Grace Malnar, 95, of Ewen, passed away April 24, 2019. Grace was born in Ewen, on Jan. 4, 1924 and graduated from Ewen High School. She married James Malnar on Aug. 7, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and husband James who passed away on Dec. 21, 1987, as well as sons Robert in 2014 and Richard in 2019.
