    HURLEY - Ben Schneider came into Saturday's race with a discrete, even human, bib number of 178, rather than the traditional No. 1 for the defending champion. Schneider, a nine-time defending champion coming in, maybe even felt a bit human just this once, battling an Achilles problem at Saturday's 47th annual Paavo Nurmi Marathon.     Jared Munch, 23, of Duluth, Minn., recently became the first person to travel around Lake Superior on a stand-up paddle board; a 1,350 mile journey that included a stop at Little Girl’s Point in Ironwood Township. Munch — a senior at the University of Minnesota-Duluth — spent the past three summers working at the school’s recreational sports outdoor program, instructing whitewater canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding classes.     WAKEFIELD, Mich. - John Charles "Tippy" Novak, 84, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 2015. He was born on June 30, 1931, in Ashland, Wis., the son of John J. and Vera (Johnson) Novak. John graduated from Wakefield High School.
