IRONWOOD — Ironwood City Manager Scott Erickson will check out the cost of the city constructing a sidewalk on the south side of U.S. 2 in the 2014-15 highway reconstruction project. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A UPS cargo plane crashed into a field near the Birmingham airport Wednesday, killing two pilots and scattering wreckage over a wide rural area moments after witnesses heard the massive jet coming in at treetop level. KINGSFORD, Mich. — Norman S. Miilu Sr., 79, of Kingsford, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran’s Hospital, Iron Mountain. Norman was born on May 17, 1934, in Mass City, son of the late Michael and Irene (Nichols) Miilu. He grew up in Mass City and graduated from Mass City High School. WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Lauri J. “Tuggers” Koski, 86, of Powderhorn Road, Bessemer Township, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, in Wakefield. He was born Dec. 8, 1926, in the Puritan Location of Bessemer Township, son of the late Jacob and Hannah (Ronkonen) Koski. Lauri attended the Puritan schools and A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from March 27, 1945, until Dec. 27, 1946. IRONWOOD — Clyde and Sally Gasparick are closing their music service store, Gasparick Music, after 22 years in business in downtown Ironwood. It’s a second retirement for Clyde, who retired from teaching in 1996. Clyde moved to Ironwood from Bark River in 1966 to teach music in the Ironwood schools. He and his wife raised their five children in Ironwood. In 1991, the Gasparicks saw a need in the community for a music store, so they went into business. The three municipalities involved in a $1,160,000 improvement project at Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ironwood approved bonding for the work this week. The city of Ironwood and Ironwood Township approved bond documents on Monday and the city of Hurley approved the borrowing on Tuesday.
