IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The $4 million project at the Carl Kleimola Technical Center on the campus of Gogebic Community College is set to finish on time, said project foreman Bill Tregembo, of Angelo Luppino, Inc. To the Editor: I attended the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources public hearing on Aug. 15 in Hurley regarding Gogebic Taconite’s request for bulk sampling and pre-application notice for a mining permit. I take exception with the Daily Globe’s front-page article on Aug. 16, “Many residents oppose Gogebic Taconite mine.” Between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon, I believe only two speakers actually resided in Iron County. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Allien G. Cartner, 87, of Ironwood Township, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 17, 2013. She died of cancer, surrounded by her husband, Vern, children, Ted, Janice, Loretta and Dan, and daughter- and son-in-law Cindy and Matt. She was born June 14, 1926, in Chicago, and moved to “the farm” in north Bessemer in 1972 with Vern. Allien and Vern celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year with many fine memories. CORONA, Calif. — Ruth (Stoole) Morgan, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, in Corona. She grew up on Morrison Road in Ironwood Township, Mich. Her parents were the late Anna and Seeta Stoole. Ruth was married to Robert Morgan, who preceded her in death. Besides her parents and her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Stoole; and three sisters, Helvie Jarvi, Sylvia Brumfield and Violet Ahonen.
