  • Residents sound off on medical marijuana producer

    BESSEMER — Local residents expressed their opinion at the Bessemer City Council meeting Tuesday concerning a recent announcement of a medical marijuana producing business to be located at the Big Dollar grocery store. On Tuesday, Sept 1. City Manager Michael Uskiewicz told the Daily Globe two business partners purchased the grocery store and plan to convert the space into, a “state of the art” facility for producing medical marijuana.     HURLEY - As part of his mission as the youth development agent with the University of Wisconsin's Iron County Extension Office, Neil Klemme recently took seven Hurley teens to Montello, Wis., to participate in a first impressions survey.   • Weekend deluge sets 110-year rain record

    IRONWOOD — The 3.45 inches of rain that fell for the 24-hour period through 7 a.m. on Labor Day set a Sept. 7 record for Ironwood. The weather station at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant records weather readings by the National Weather Service office in Marquette. It was the most rain received on that day over the past 110 years. Rainfall totals appeared to vary widely for the 24-hour period across the Gogebic Range, and the fact that the ground was so dry helped absorb all of that sudden moisture.
