The Ironwood stretch, called the Western Gateway trail, was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony near Depot Park in the afternoon, attended by about 50 people. Before Labor Day, physical education teacher Janet Hellman, Lee Schiller and his third-grade daughter, Janet, cleared the pavement of debris, then painted fresh lines.     IRONWOOD, Mich. - George B. Wallis Jr., also known as "PA," 62, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, Sept. 13, 2015, at home. He was born Dec. 5, 1952, in Ironwood, son of George B. Wallis Sr. and the late Mary Lou (Lopez) Wallis. He attended Hurley, Wis., schools and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1972. He then served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years. He was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Hurley, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Ryniewicz) Traczyk, and attended Hurley schools. He worked in area CCC camps and at the Iron County Lumber and Fuel Co. prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and serving overseas during World War II. Rudy was born on Dec. 26, 1934, to the late Rudolph and Leone (Buckner) Sokol of Ironwood, where he grew up and graduated high school. Rudy served his country in the U.S. Army and then went on to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
