    BAYFIELD, Wis. - Ironwood's Jared Joki broke free from the pack late to win Thursday's Indianhead Conference Copperud Open cross country meet at Mt. Ashwabay.     IRONWOOD - Aspirus Grand View Hospital held an open house Thursday to show the public its new emergency department. Officials said the project, which included relocating the hospital's lab and pharmacy, cost $4 million and completely changed the appearance and structure of the hospital's emergency care location.     SEATTLE, Wash. — Elaine Paananen, of Seattle, died Sept. 22, 2014. She was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Aug. 14, 1928. She married Eugene Elmer Paananen also from Ironwood. He was a decorated WWII Army veteran and German POW. Family was the center of their lives, having seven children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grand children. She instilled in the family a pride for our Finnish heritage.     HAZELHURST, Wis. - Family vacations for the Joe and Molly Bodewes family of Hazelhurst, Wis., are never boring. In 2011, the family paddled 1,600 miles around Lake Superior in 72 days, finishing at Black River Harbor, north of Ironwood. They raised money for HIV-positive children in Tanzania.     BALSAM LAKE, Wis. - Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wardens helped rescue two bear cubs stuck in a big tree in northern Wisconsin on Sunday. Joanne Haas, of the DNR, said the cubs were rescued from a Polk County tree. A woman reported hearing strange animal noises coming from the tree, and she saw a snout sticking out of a crack in the trunk on Saturday.
