    To the Editor, Congressman Dan Benishek has resorted to the same old Republican fear tactics to scare voters into voting for him. Benishek’s latest campaign mailer, meant to intimidate Michigan voters, is called, “Let’s connect the dots” ... because your Medicare is at risk. In it he falsely claims that Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi, slashed your Medicare benefits to pay for Obamacare (The Affordable Care Act).     Dear Editor, Residents in the city of Ironwood and Ironwood Township are being asked to increase property taxes by supporting road millage requests. A recent article in the Daily Globe reported our local roads are in poor condition and in need of repair. I won’t dispute that fact. What I question is why have our elected leaders chosen and continue to make road maintenance a low priority?     MERCER, Wis. - The annual Mercer Health Fair attracted more than 150 people to the Mercer Community Center recently. Health screening for cholesterol, blood sugar, diabetes, blood sugar and blood pressure, along with many educational presentations, were available for attendees of all ages. The event is sponsored each October by the Mercer Food Pantry, Ministry Health Care, Mercer Lions Club, Mercer Lioness Club and the Iron County Health Department.... Full story

    ASHLAND, Wis. - "Girls just wanna have fun" and the third annual Chick-uamegon, a lighthearted women's 5K/10K walk/run and 20-mile bike race, is scheduled for Nov. 8.     MARQUETTE, Mich. — Raymond F. Potvin, Jr., 76, of Bergland, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette. He was born in Ashland, Wis., to Raymond Sr. and Etta (Christen) Potvin. Raymond enjoyed fishing, collecting pocketknives and spending time with his family. Hill, 98, a former resident of Ontonagon, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2014, at Portage Pointe in Hancock, where she had been a resident for the past four months. Prior to residing at Portage Pointe, Jennie had been a longtime residence of The Bluffs in Houghton. Jennie was born May 7, 1916, to John and Wilhelmina Arkelin, and lived on the family farm in Rockland. In 1933, Jennie graduated from the Rockland High School.
