  • Ironwood voters approve street millage

    IRONWOOD — Ironwood voters on Tuesday approved a special 10-year millage to resurface about 10 miles of streets next year. The vote was 832 to 651, or 56 to 44 percent, to levy 2 mills for general obligation tax bonds to be repaid over a 10-year period, for about $1.4 million in street work. Before the election, city manager Scott Erickson said there are 62 miles of streets in the city and although much street work has been done in the past few years, about 20 miles are still in bad shape and need of repair.     BESSEMER - Six candidates competed for three four-year terms on the Bessemer School Board Tuesday. Elected were Beth Steiger, 657 votes, and incumbents Annette Lillie, 498, and Robert Berg, 456. Defeated were William Van Hill, 357; Cory Wainio, 391, and incumbent William McDonald, 270. Mary Beth Trudgeon defeated Dave Osier 583-359 for a two-year term on the school board.... Full story

  • Wakefield-Marenisco voters approve millage renewal

    WAKEFIELD - Wakefield-Marenisco School District voters renewed 1 mill for the school's building and site sinking fund for 10 years Tuesday to continue funding for the purchase of real estate, the construction or repair of school buildings and other purposes authorized by law. According to superintendent Cathy Shamion, the money will help the district continue to do many projects, including ongoing tuckpointing of the building and perhaps replacing windows and the addition of an elevator.... Full story

The contestants from across the area will perform in vocal competition at the Historic Ironwood Theatre, hoping to win the chance to open for American Idol season 10 finalist Naima Adedapo.     BEAVER DAM, Wis. - Ewald Buell "Bud" Benter Jr., 82, of Upson, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at the home of his son in Beaver Dam. Bud was born in Horicon on April 6, 1932, to Ewald K and Carrie (Prame) Benter. His siblings included sisters, Audrey Hintz (James), Roberta Mullin (Olen), Carrie Benter (Cliff) and Judy Bischoff (James).     ONTONAGON, Mich. — Helen Hoefferle, beloved mother of seven, wife of George Hoefferle (deceased), sister to eight, and daughter of Frank Sr. and Mary Domitrovich (deceased) died at her home in Ontonagon early Sunday morning on Nov. 2, 2014, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
