    BESSEMER - Hundreds of elementary students and their parents celebrated Thanksgiving a little early Tuesday with a Thanksgiving feast at Washington Elementary School in Bessemer. It was the first time the school held the feast. First grade teacher Emily Stafford had held similar meals at her old school in North Carolina.     The Michigan State Police are preparing for an extra safe Thanksgiving holiday this year. From Nov. 26 though 30, the MSP is conducting their largest Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) ever. "Operation C.A.R.E. is a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing traffic crashes and fatalities on highways across the country," according to the MSP, and began in 1977.   • Students design food drive creations

    BESSEMER - Students at A.D. Johnston High School gathered for a contest to end a can drive held at the school recently. The school's Key Club organized the event this year, the "fourth year for Key Club," said president Valerie Rowe. It has taken place longer than four years though, said both Rowe and vice president Molly Wieringa.
