IRONWOOD - Salem Lutheran Church hosted a cookie sale fundraiser to benefit local charities Saturday morning. IRONWOOD — Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District Superintendent Bruce Mayle has met separately with superintendents from Wakefield-Marenisco and Bessemer school districts to discuss the upcoming consolidation issue, and once collectively, he said Friday. IRONWOOD - Thirty area youth got the opportunity to do Christmas shopping with local law enforcement on Saturday. The kids were given $100 each to spend on gifts, and after they hunted bargains they met back at the Memorial building to eat pizza and wrap gifts. MARENISCO, Mich. - Leslie Dale "Les" Havenor, 80, a longtime resident of Marenisco, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Dec. 6, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 6, 1933, in Winegar, Wis., the son of Leslie Edward and Pearl Marie (Hebert) Havenor. WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Ronald Udell “Ron” Taylor, 69, of Wakefield, was taken to be with the Lord, Friday evening, Dec. 6, 2013. Ron was born on Nov. 17, 1944, in Harriman, Tenn., son of the late Cletus U. and Enith (Hall) Taylor. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. On Sept. 5, 1964, Ron was united in marriage to his best friend and soul mate, Janice Lee Wicklund, in Waukegan, Ill. He worked as a cook at Mike’s Restaurant. ONTONAGON - The temperature was just eight above zero at the 13th annual Hometown Christmas Parade in Ontonagon Sunday. The parade featured veterans with the combined colors, floats from the Stein Club, Dream Catchers, Americinn Inn, Silver City, Ontonagon County Animal Protection group, SONCO Ambulance and Santa and Mrs. Claus riding on the Ontonagon Fire Truck. MERCER, Wis. - The inception ceremony of the newly chartered Mercer National Junior Honor Society was held Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Jean Babic Memorial Library in the Mercer High School.
