County board heads south for annual Mercer meeting

MERCER, Wis. -- The Iron County Board will hold its monthly meeting in Mercer on Tuesday evening.

At the request of supervisors from the southern part of the county, the board meets in Mercer once each year. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center.

Board members face a light agenda that includes the adoption of five resolutions.

Iron County is being asked to co-sign a loan for American Legion Post 58 for a new boiler at the Hurley Memorial Building. The Memorial Building is owned by Iron County.

Another resolution seeks board approval for a policy for property tax collections pertaining to the collection of, and procedures relating to the collection of non-payment taxes.

Delinquent property taxes on a piece of property in Iron County can continue for three years.

Deed to the property is taken by the county on the fourth year of delinquency, said county clerk Mike Saari.

Each Sept. 1, the county treasurer issues to the county a tax certificate that includes all parcels on the tax roll for which property taxes, special charges, special taxes or special assessments remain unpaid as of 4 p.m. on Aug. 31.

A third resolution will quit-claim to Roger Gentile, 36 acres of land in Kimball for $28,000.

Mercer Parking on Agenda

County board members will be asked to establish parking restrictions on a portion of County Trunk J in Mercer.

If the resolution is adopted, parking on the south side of the road will be prohibited at all times from the corner of Scheels Road through the northeast corner of Portage Avenue.
