MADISON, Wis., -- The Wisconsin Attorney General's office recently cleared former Iron County Corporation Counsel Jodie Bednar-Clemens of any criminal conduct stemming from the 2005-06 Department of Criminal investigation's probe into alleged misconduct in office.
It was the second probe from the AG's office.
On Aug. 10, 2007, director of criminal litigation Roy Korte advised county board chairman Dennis DeRosso that the first investigation had been completed.
"I concluded that while some of the behavior was unusual, and showed questionable judgment, I was unable to conclude that any of the conduct was criminal," Korte wrote.
After that conclusion, County Supervisor John Wiita asked that the department consider additional matters including the Mark Laguna case. Korte said Wiita "appears to suggest that Ms. Bednar-Clemens may have been involved in having Mr. Laguna treated for a certain medical conditions.
"As there is no allegation of criminal conduct, I will take no action in regard to that matter," Korte wrote in the second report.
Wiita also expressed concern over the Fisher Lake-Lake of the Falls land swap deal.
"You allege that Ms. Bednar-Clemens somehow improperly influenced the appraisal of the property which resulted in the county property being undervalued."
Korte concluded that "This matter was previously considered as part of the DCI review. I find no basis to pursue any additional investigation."
