HURLEY -- Abbey Hallberg graduated from college in May and, like many grads she has whopping dreams for her future.

To make the world a better place to live in -- that's her career goal. And she's started her work right here in Iron County.

In June, Hallberg began her yearlong service as an AmeriCorps VISTA for Iron County. As a VISTA, or volunteer in service to America, Hallberg's task is to draft and implement youth programs here.

So far she's created a plan to carry out President Barack Obama's United We Serve initiative throughout Iron and Gogebic counties, and began contributing to the Gogebic-Iron Range's Next Generation Initiative to attract and retain young people. She'll continue work on these projects and develop additional projects throughout the year.

"There were some parameters I have to work within, but I really got to form my own ideas, then mold them with people in the county when I came here," she says.

Abbey good for you. Do not let the stupid comment by L Anderson discourage you at all. That comment is typical of the rightwing hate spewed throughout this country. Work hard and contribute. Gogebic and Iron counties need more people like you to stay. I am proud of you and I may someday get back to support the efforts and help the area RETAIN its talent. Ignore the hate of these rightwing fools. They destroyed the country and they want to continue the destruction until it's complete.

Talk about a waste of time. People already volunteer. and children just need to be children. If they want to volunteer they dont need this stupid ass program to get it accomplished. All it is doing is creating more minds full of mush and a bunch of Obama koolaide drinkers. Abbey get a real job. Your fresh out of college. There is no real work up there. I suggest that you go to a big city where they can really use your talents. AND STOP DRINKING THE OBAMA KOOLAID.
