MINOCQUA, Wis. -- A soggy field turned a home game into a road trip and Hurley didn't miss a beat, beating Lakeland 8-1 Monday.
"It was nice to keep playing instead of sitting around doing nothing," said Hurley manager Jim Kivisto, who missed the game due to a funeral.
The Midgettes hit the ball hard on Monday.
The Midgettes took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Amanda Brown hit a double and Brittany Czerneski had a single. Caitlin Maki followed with a RBI groundout and Jesse Mackey's single drove in two runs.
Hurley added a run in the third. Judy Nevala doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brown.
Lakeland scored in the fourth, but the Midgettes added four runs in the fifth.
Mackey hit a single, Kayla Windt hammered an RBI triple, Hailey Manzanares drove in a run with a double and Nevala and Maki drove in runs with singles.
Manzanares picked up the win with five innings of work. She struck out six, gave up five hits, one walk and no earned runs.
Courtney Anderson finished the game and tossed two scoreless innings. She gave up two hits, no walks and struck out two.
"We're playing well now," Kivisto said. "We're happy with the way things are going."
Hurley goes to Phillips Tuesday.
