Lioness club welcomes new member, plans events

MERCER, Wis. — The Mercer Lioness Club held its monthly meeting March 19 at the Whistle Stop in Mercer.

President Betty Meinholz inducted new member Martha Pierpont into the club during the meeting. Her sponsor was Deanna Pierpont.

Club members also discussed upcoming group events, including a blood drive set Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center. Donors may call 715-476-3511 for appointments.

The group plans to attend the 24th annual Lions Club Convention April 12-13 at Whitecap Mountains in Hurley.

The Lioness Club will hold its spring salad luncheon and fashion show Saturday, May 18, in conjunction with Mercer’s “Claire d’Loon’s a-May-zing Birthday Bash” celebrating the birthday of the town’s loon statue. The luncheon and fashion show, chaired by Lioness members Colleen Flanagan-Miller and Genne Urbanski, runs from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Mercer Public Library. Tickets are available from the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, Aunt Esther’s Attic and Cheri’s Fabric to Quilt in downtown Mercer. Birthday events for children will also take place at the library from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Other Birthday Bash events include a birthday wreath for Claire and a parade.
