Gladys Ruth MacArthur

ASHLAND, Wis. — Gladys Ruth MacArthur, 91, of Ashland, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Ashland, the daughter of Roy and Marie (Schroeer) Goldinger. In 1940, she graduated from Ashland High School.

On Jan. 3, 1948, Gladys married Dan MacArthur, in Ashland.

For many years, she worked as a laundry aide at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center. Gladys also worked other various jobs in Ashland. She was a member of the Presbyterian Congregational Church in Ashland, where she was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. Gladys also was a Cub Scout leader. In her earlier years, she enjoyed roller skating, playing softball and bowling on the Platter Bowling Team.

She is survived by her husband, Dan, Ashland; three children, Jeff (Karen) MacArthur, Cottage Grove, Minn., Pat (Dale Kuivanen) MacArthur, Bergland, Mich., and Marie (Bruce Crawford) MacArthur, St. Paul, Minn .; a daughter-in-law, Susan MacArthur, Mellen; four grandchildren, Daryl Lutz, Erica Lutz, Steve (Julie) MacArthur and Stephanie (Chad) Dockter; eight great-grandchildren, Melissa Spruell, Jeremy (Wendy) MacArthur, Cassie MacArthur, Allison MacArthur, Breanna and Gabe Dockter and Maggie and Ella Lutz; a great-great-granddaughter, Emma; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Allan; a great-grandson, Charles Mac Spruell; a brother, Wilmer Goldinger; and two sisters, Isabelle Rochon and Alice Ruth.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland, with Dr. Darrel Robertson officiating.

Interment will take place in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
