Ruth M. Mikich

WAUSAU, Wis. — Ruth M. Mikich, 78, of Wausau, formerly of Minocqua, passed away May 2, 2013, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau, due to complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Ruth was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Ely, Minn., the daughter of the late Andrew and Mari Kivipelto.

She married Arden Mikich on Dec. 14, 1957, in Ely.

She attended Ely High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., where she earned her registered nurse degree. She returned to Ely and worked as a registered nurse at the Ely Winton Hospital until her marriage to Arden, who worked for the U.S. Forest Service, and served in the U.S. Army.

Besides her husband, Arden, she is survived by two daughters, Marcia Mikich, of Milwaukee, and Liisa (Terry) Hill, of Prior Lake, Minn.; sisters, Evelyn Groe, of Maplewood, Minn., and Irma Riikolan of Ely; sister-in-law, Marge Kivipelto, of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Oiva and Aimo Kivipelto; brothers-in-law, Arnold Riikola and Richard Groe; and sister-in-law, Lota Kivipelto.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Calvary Lutheran Church ELCA in Minocqua. The Rev. Maxine Gray will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Cemetery in Spooner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., or Calvary Lutheran Church ELCA, Minocqua.
