Volunteer fire department celebrates Mother's Day with brunch

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Local residents celebrated Mother’s Day with a tradition spanning more than 20 years at the Ironwood Township Hall on Sunday.

The Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Mother’s Day Brunch, with hundreds of people dining on a variety of food, including chicken, mashed potatoes, breakfast foods and more.

“Things were really good,” said Chief Jamie Peite. “We had a lot of people come to eat.”

According to department members, the event was quite popular the first couple of years, almost “unbearable” for volunteers to handle. After 20 years of experience, the volunteers have gotten the hang of things, and serve between 250-300 people each year on average.

“The people who come each year are either township residents or have lived here before,” Peite said. “We always appreciate the support that we get, and these people support the fire department 110 percent.”
