Fat Tire Bicycle group enjoys second Tuesday night ride

HURLEY — The Fat Tire Bicycle group met Tuesday night behind the Iron Nugget to enjoy its second night of riding this season in 80-degree temperatures.

Group members have been riding together for more than 20 years, said rider Chet Kanipes.

Tuesday night events are usually between eight and 12 miles of off-road riding, and Wednesday nights feature road riding of up to 25 miles.

The Wednesday night rides begin next week, departing from Maplewood Steakhouse on Cloverland Drive in Ironwood.

The group starts its evening at different locations in Ironwood, Bessemer and Hurley, and enjoys the exercise before having dinner or drinks to socialize.

Many members are warming up for the “Go Ride R Range Ride.” or GRRR, on Sunday, with 50 people signed up so far, said rider Sam Davey.

Sunday’s 20-mile ride starts at 1 p.m. from Bluff Valley Park in Bessemer.
