Helen Ann (Robert) Drew

ONTONAGON, Mich. — Helen Ann (Robert) Drew, 81, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Aspirus Long Term Care Facility from salivary gland cancer.

She was born May 18, 1931, in Ontonagon, the only daughter of Joseph and Sophie Moskwa. She attended Ontonagon schools, graduating with the class of 1948.

Helen married her high school sweetheart, Bob Drew, in 1949 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in a ceremony performed by Rev. Owen J. Bennet.

She worked at Hecox Hardware as a bookkeeper. In 1967, she went to work as director of Ontonagon Village Housing Commission. She worked in that position for 28 years, retiring in May 1995.

Helen was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and also a member of St. Jude’s Circle Altar Guild. She also belonged to a sewing club and a pinochle club.

She always put others’ needs ahead of her own and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. To anyone who knew Helen, knew that she dearly loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sophie (Mazurek) Moskwa; her in-laws, Floyd and Veronica (Clisch) Drew; sister-in-law, Betty Moskwa; brothers-in-law, John Drew and Jim Drew; sisters-in-law, Jane Drew and Mary Jane Malcore; and nieces, Nancy Drew and Linda Moskwa.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bob; daughters, Jean (Ray) Jadin, of Lexington, S.C., and Sally (Ken) Jarvey, of Ontonagon; sons, Michael (Patti) Drew, of Ontonagon, and Pat Drew, of Green Bay, Wis .; nine grandchildren, Michael Jadin, of Lexington, John (Susan) Jadin, of Columbia, S.C., Tammy (Neil) Ahola, of Hancock, Renae (Randy Sahs) Dubey, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Josh (Anna) Drew, of Negaunee, Jennifer (Jeremy) Raymond, of Negaunee, and Adam, Bailey and Dane Drew, of Green Bay; 10 great-grandchildren, Sean Jadin, Taylor Kaiponen, Zach Ahola, Brandon Jadin, Jerry Jadin, Payton, Daylyn and Dyceson Drew, Seth Raymond and Thaddeus Sahs; her brothers, Joe Moskwa, of Ontonagon, and John Moskwa, of Dundee; her brother-in-law, David (Julie) Drew, of Green Bay; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving is a special “adopted” grandson, Mike Mansell, of New York.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Holy Family Catholic Church of Ontonagon.

Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Burial will be in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that donations be made to the Beacon House of Marquette or the Ontonagon County Cancer Society.
