Renovations continue at Gogebic Community College

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Renovations at Gogebic Community College's Carl Kleimola Applied Technology Center are well under way, with the steel structural skeleton of the second floor above the automotive workshop assembled.

The next step is to lay the steel pans for pouring concrete for the second floor, according to dean of business services Erik Guenard.

Workers are installing duct work, said Bill Tregembo, of Angelo Luppino, Inc., Iron Belt, Wis. Tregembo expects to start on the decking Monday, and the concrete work next week.

Three windows are ready to be put in to provide lighting for the second floor, Tregembo said.

The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 26.

The $1.5 million project will add four classrooms, three offices and a multi-purpose conference room.

Construction began on May 13.

Guenard said it is a green project, because it makes use of unused space, and doesn't impact GCC's carbon footprint.
